If you’ve never heard of the beautiful island of Nevis, it’s time to change that. We recently enjoyed a family vacation there (kids ages 10, 8, 7, and 3), and I compiled this Nevis travel guide to help you plan a relaxed, nature-centered getaway. Getting to Nevis
Reaching Nevis can be a bit of an adventure depending on your departure point, but most visitors find the effort well worth it. From Dallas, our route included flights to Miami and then to St. Kitts, followed by a short taxi and a quick ferry ride to Nevis. Many hotels coordinate transport from St. Kitts’ airport to the ferry and then from the Nevis ferry dock to your accommodation, which makes the journey smooth. The final ferry between St. Kitts and Nevis takes only about 15–20 minutes and delivers you right into island life.

Nevis offers a mix of casual beachfront cafés, romantic plantation-house dining, and lively local spots. Highlights from our trip:
- Sunshine’s – A short walk along the beach from the Four Seasons. Known for great lobster and the signature “Killer Bee” drink. Perfect for a relaxed lunch.

- Montpelier Plantation Inn Restaurant – A beautiful property offering an elegant dining experience; request a table in The Mill for a romantic candlelit dinner.
- Indian Summer – A roadside restaurant serving flavorful Indian cuisine.
- Yachtsman Grill – A casual choice, especially good for pizza and family dinners where kids can roam on the beach.
- Drift – A favorite for sunset dinners with excellent views and well-executed dishes.
- Luna – From the same owners as Drift; tapas-style dining in a lovely setting.
- Banana’s – A unique jungle restaurant with rooftop sunset drinks and a lively atmosphere.
- Golden Rock Inn – An absolute must-visit for a special lunch or dinner; the property is breathtaking and dining here is memorable.
- Paradise Beach Nevis – A beautiful beachfront venue ideal for a leisurely lunch, reachable by a short walk or quick taxi from central resort areas.
- Mango and On The Dune – Dining options at the Four Seasons resort; On The Dune was a favorite among the resort choices.
Things to Do in Nevis
- Spa at the Four Seasons – Exceptional treatments using locally sourced botanicals; a deep tissue massage here was a highlight for me.
- Golf – The Four Seasons course is scenic and well maintained; a must for golf enthusiasts.
- Catamaran charters and snorkeling – We booked a private charter and snorkeled in clear waters; a fantastic way to explore marine life and nearby coves.
- Botanical Gardens – A tranquil place to learn about local flora and enjoy a relaxed stroll.
- Golf cart tours – If staying at the Four Seasons, ask about a guided golf cart tour to explore nearby sights.
- Island taxi tours – Local drivers offer island tours that include old sugar plantations, historic structures, and viewpoints that reveal Nevis’ past and natural beauty.
- Alexander Hamilton Museum – Learn about Alexander Hamilton’s early life on Nevis and the island’s historical context.
- Scenic drives and beach time – Much of Nevis’ appeal is simply enjoying quiet beaches, coastal views, and scenic coastal roads.
Note on history: Nevis has a complex past linked to plantation agriculture and the transatlantic slave trade. Many of the island’s former plantation houses and ruins have been repurposed into hotels, inns, and restaurants. When touring these sites, it’s worth reflecting on that layered history while appreciating the natural and cultural beauty that exists today.

Practical Tips and Local Notes
Taxi drivers are a fantastic resource on Nevis: they reliably shuttle guests between hotels, restaurants, and sites while sharing local knowledge and history. Ask your hotel to recommend a driver you can book for the duration of your stay. Also, many travelers take advantage of duty-free alcohol purchases at the airport or at the first stop in St. Kitts while waiting for a ferry to Nevis—handy for stocking up before arriving at your hotel.
